DEFINITION

A feminist art installation and performance exhibition, January and February 1972 at run down mansion in Hollywood California, it became a "milestone in women's art, one of the biggest and most celebrated exhibitions of art by and about women ever assembled." Originators were art historian Paula Hays Harper working with artists Judy Chicago and Miriam Schapiro. Participants included members of Harper's feminist art class at the California Institute of Art.
