Registrar

DEFINITION

A person with broad responsibilities in the development and the enforcement of policies and procedures pertaining to the acquisition, management and disposition of collections. The registrar maintains the records pertaining to the objects for which the institution has assumed responsibility. Usually the registrar also handles arrangements for accessions, loans, packing, shipping, storage, customs, and insurance as it relates to the objects.Also see art careers, curator, museology, museum, preparator, register, and typology.
