Pratt institute

DEFINITION

A private college of art on a 25-acre campus in Brooklyn, New York, it is one of the best-known, prestigious art schools in America. The Institute is named for natural oil industrialist Charles Pratt (1830-1891)who recognized the need for skilled industrial workers and founded the school, which opened in 1887. Today there are also campuses in Manhattan and Utica, New York. Departments include Architecture, Art and Design and Liberal Arts and Sciences.
