Papier froisse

DEFINITION

Engravings and prints created with a process involving crinkled, soft tissue paper, it has been promoted recently since 1975 by Italian artist, Antonio Papasso. It involves predominantly white area and the artist manipulating, with the warmth of the hands, a sheet of tissue paper in an attempt to convey vitality. Intended to result in a metamorphosis, it is a creativity-oriented approach to reach a different consciousness, a journey into the transcendent, then a return to reality. The surface of "papier froiss??" is regarded as organic, ready to receive signs, shapes and colors. The communicative action is natural and helps to provide an emotional harvest.???
