Moscow school of painting sculpture and architect

DEFINITION

One of the largest art education institutions in Russia, it was founded in 1865 by the merger of a private college begun in 1832 and the Palace School of Architecture, established in 1749. It has been a competitor of the state-run St. Petersburg Academy of Arts for largest school in the country. Today its art curriculum is part of the Sirikov Art Institute in Moscow and architecture is at the Moscow Architectural Institute, the latter occupying the historical Moscow School.
