Igneous rock

DEFINITION

Rock formed by the cooling and solidifying of the subterranean molten mass of the earth. Examples of igneous rocks include: basalt, diorite, dolerite, granite, granodiorite, obsidian, and porphyry.Also see metamorphic rock, Mohs Scale of Hardness, sedimentary rock, and stone.
