Base

Also called plinth. The base is what the sculpture is attached, fixed or mounted on. A block (of any shape or dimension and material placed between a sculpture and its pedestal). These terms can all be confused as a pedestal is also defined as a base or foundation!<br><br>A plinth or podium on which a sculpture is exhibited, or the portion of a sculpture on which its weight rests. The stepped base of a Greek temple is called a crepidoma. "Base" might also refer to the vehicle or medium carrying a paint&#39;s pigments. Do not confuse this with a solvent.
